Smart antennas for emergencies

No connection under this number: If the lift suddenly gets stuck, quick help is needed. The legislator has passed a regulation that will come into force on January 1, 2021. In future, it must be ensured that in an emergency someone can actually be reached around the clock. Without reliable two-way communication, lift operations are threatened with closure. But how can lifts be retrofitted without complications? Smart antennas with GSM technology offer a fast, cost-effective and reliable solution.

Lifts are considered to be particularly safe. But even regular maintenance and the best technology cannot 100% prevent the lift from getting stuck. Then the hour of the emergency call service strikes. A test conducted by the Ministry of Labor in 2013 showed that this service is often not available. 50% of the time, the emergency call remained unheard.

Lift conversion becomes mandatory

This is set to change when the amended Industrial Safety Regulation comes into force. The legislator makes the retrofitting of lifts mandatory. If the lift gets stuck, someone must be available around the clock and communication between the lift occupants and the emergency call center must be established. The regulation will take effect from the beginning of 2021, with no transition periods. But how can such an emergency service be technically ensured?

Mobile phone solution saves time and money

Operators have the choice between a fixed line or a mobile connection. The investment in a mobile phone solution is less expensive and pays for itself more quickly. The installation effort is also lower. The decisive factor is the use of the right antenna. It must have a high degree of efficiency to ensure a stable and powerful connection between the lift and the nearest mobile phone mast.

High-performance antennas at the heart

The company Antennentechnik Bad Blankenburg from Weimar is specialized in antennas for use in difficult environments. In close cooperation with public utilities and specialists from the energy industry, the company has developed particularly powerful antennas for so-called smart metering. The aim is to establish a secure connection via mobile communications in order to securely transmit consumption and feed-in data. The challenge: Meter cabinets are located in the basement. The antennas must therefore be powerful enough to transmit the signals securely to the next mobile phone mast.

Avoid shutting down lift operations

The special antennas used for this purpose are also suitable for two-way communication in lifts (station antennas 4934 and 4942). They have a very high efficiency and can be installed quickly and easily. As a result, lift operators can not only save time and money during the mandatory retrofitting of lifts, but can also avoid having to shut down lift operations after a TÜV inspection. In the event of an emergency, lift users will no longer have to call this number.
