The Andalusian Regional Government (Junta de Andalucía), the Linares City Council and Desay SV today held an official ground-breaking ceremony to mark the start of construction work on a new display production facility. The new plant will be built in the Andalusian city of Linares, around 300 kilometers south of Madrid. The factory will enable Desay SV to supply its European automotive customers directly from Europe with the latest generation of high-performance, high-resolution displays from around the end of 2026. This will bring a number of benefits for customers like for example lower CO2 emissions, reduced geopolitical risks and shorter response and delivery times. The driving forces behind this project include the Regional Government of Andalusia which, as owner, will finance the construction of the building, the Linares City Council which, as the developer, will act as lessor of the factory building, and the automotive supplier Desay SV in Huizhou which will install the production equipment and operate the new plant.
Leading market position in the display segment
In China, Desay SV already operates a state-of-the-art display plant in Huizhou with an annual production output of around 9 million units. The displays are supplied to renowned car manufacturers. Last year, Desay SV defended once again its leading position in the display segment in China with a market share of 18.3%. This position is underpinned by the fact that the company was the first tier 1 supplier to develop and adopt sophisticated TFT bonding technology to exclude air inclusions and optimize contrast, color representation and reflection, among others. The company has also developed an advanced display diagnostic methodology to secure the quality of displays in the production process and even after delivery. Moreover, Desay SV has the unique ability to customize displays to the individual requirements of customers – enabled by a highly efficient, flexible manufacturing process.
Linares was able to assert itself as a location
More than 120 criteria were taken into account in the search for a suitable location for the new display plant in Europe. Three European countries met these criteria best and were shortlisted. In the end, the Andalusian city of Linares came out on top - thanks to optimal framework and funding conditions and strong, committed support from the Public Agency for Economic Transformation and Development (Andalucia TRADE) of the Regional Government of Andalusia and the Linares City Council.
Planned start of production in the 4th quarter of 2026
Completion of the factory building with a production area of 13,000 square meters and an office area of 2,300 square meters is scheduled for the end of September 2025. The production facilities will then be installed and intensively tested. Production of displays is scheduled to start in the 4th quarter of 2026. According to the plans, the production capacity of the new plant will reach around 1.5 million units by 2028. The number of employees is set to grow from around 100 at the start of production to over 300 by the end of 2028.
Expansion in Europe
Desay SV has been expanding in Europe for several years and has strengthened its expertise and presence with a series of investments. For example, with the inauguration of an optical test laboratory for displays in November 2023, the start of construction work on a state-of-the-art 3D antenna measurement chamber in January 2024 and the opening of branch offices close to automotive customers. An office in Guyancourt, southwest of Paris, made the start in mid-May 2024. Another office was opened in Mladá Boleslav in the Czech Republic at the beginning of June 2024. Plans for the opening of further locations are in full swing. For example, in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Wolfsburg, Germany.
